Piezo foil Sensors and Actuators
Originally developed for the determination of aerodynamic forces and pressures in wind tunnel experiments for space vehicles, extremely thin and flexible sensors are now available which can be used e.g. to predict the course of car accidents leading to the activation of passenger and vehicle safety systems such as airbags, seat belt tighteners and ESP. Piezo foil actuators can be used for micro manipulators or for vibration damping.
