Kinotex Sensor GmbH

Kontox Sensor GmbH is a Start-up company with the intention to develop, produce and sell sensors based on the Kinotex technology for: aeronautical, automotive, industrial and medical applications. The Kinotex technology, short for “Kineasthic Textiles”, has been developed on behalf of NASA as a tactile sensor for robotic arms in space, to prevent robot arms from accidentally crashing into the outer hull of the Space Station or the Space Shuttle.

The technology is based on the optical cavity principle utilizing a scattering media for sensing deformation caused by force. Kinotex sensor can sense pressure and – like the human skin- can give feedback about e.g. pressure intensity, the contact location, etc. Sensor have already been tested for applications such as automotive safety sensor (airbag control), Human Machine Interface, medical sensors, industrial safety sensor and aeronautical applications. The technology ist patented by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).
