Global Transmission Services –
FORTIS Time Synchronisation from Space

FORTIS Swiss watch manufacturer, is linked up very closely to space flights and faces a new challenge as being partner of the very first commercial experiment on board of the International Space Station ISS, in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

GTS is a new system for transmitting radio signals from the International Space Station ISS for new services like for example the global distribution of the UTC time code or the synchronisation of watches to the correct local time at any given place. Due to the advantageous flight path and the transmission frequencies, GTS allows the miniaturisation of the receiver unit so that in the near future it may well be integrated into watches. The aim of the GTS sientific research pro-ject is the radio communication from the lower orbit.
