Since the late 1990s, ECM Ingenieur- Unternehmen für Energie- und Umwelttechnik GmbH:
Has been producing a variety of components made of a carbon-fibre reinforced ceramic – Cesic; and since 2000, ECM has had the manufacturing capability of producing Cesic components up to 2.4 m in diameter. ECM has demonstrated Cesic material properties and advantages in numerous test and validation projects in cooperation with international space-system suppliers and space agencies.Cesic is a “space-qualified” ceramic material; and ECM's Cesic manufacturing processes are qualifield according to the valid quality guidelines of DIN ISO 9001:2000 and ECSS standards. In 2005 ECM was awarded its first contract for the manufacturing of a fight telescope structure with two integrated mirrors, all made entirely out of Cesic. ECM delivered the components on schedule and the complete satisfaction of the customer, Thales Alenia Space France. All components are already successful integrated on the satellite. The satellite will be launched on 12.02.2009.
ECM holds several patents for the manufacturing of different Cesic applications.
